Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio – Amelia Island

My experience going on the press drive with FCA Alfa Romeo North America in the all new Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio at Amelia Island 2017 did not disappoint. During the Amelia Island Concours D’Elegance there are many events happening at once. Thankfully I was attending as Media this year and got to sign up for the Alfa Romeo press drives which included a short time to photograph the car! During our 25 mile tour we put the car through every typical task: 0-60, 0-100, braking, etc. Overall, my thoughts on the Alfa are extremely positive! The driving experience, despite the option of a manual transmission, is very entertaining. Who knew a 2.9 liter V6 could sound as good as this! During up and downshifts the farts and burbles coming out of the quad exhaust tips are intoxicating! Beyond the sublime driving experience, fit and finish of the interior actually shame some of the Giulia’s German rivals. So is Alfa back? Does this lineup offer the same level of ‘Alfa magic’ the longtime fans have come to know? Well I know one thing, I’d buy it. Thank you to Alfa Romeo North America for this drive and Burj for being my […]

1967 Ferrari 330 P4

What can I say about the 330 P4 Ferrari? What can I say that gives the P4 justice? Its a car built by craftsmen and speed-freaks with one purpose, to “win”. Enzo Ferrari’s instructions where very clear after watching Ford dominate LeMans in 1965 and 1966, win! And in 1967, thats what they did, win. The Ferrari 330 P4 became a race winner and a winner of hearts with it’s unmistakable shape. Everywhere you look there are convex shapes, concave shapes, and louvres all riveted together in perfect harmony. I was lucky enough to see the one that took second in that famous LeMans comeback at this year’s Finali Mondiali in Daytona Beach, Florida. Petrolicious did a wonderful video on this exact car a couple of years ago.

2016 SP275RW Competizione – Finali Mondiali 2016

2016 Ferrari SP275RW Competizione   A complete surprise to everyone, this car was reportedly at the factory less than a week before the Finali Mondiali event in Daytona Beach this past weekend. Not being a production model, just about everyone that walked past it gave it a double take and wondered what it was. From what I gathered, this was a one-off Italian Stallion for one of Ferrari’s very special customers. Based on an F12 TDF underneath, the entire exterior and much of the interior appears to be completely bespoke. The exterior design drew its inspiration from the 1967 275 GTB/4 as seen in the pictures below with the signature four gills on each side behind the front wheels. The headlights, though redesigned, look close to the F60 America Ferrari but with blue carbon fiber housings. The trim of the 275RW is also finished in blue carbon fiber on the rear diffuser, front grill slats, and front splitter. The interior features beautiful dark blue leather with yellow stitching and piping to match the exterior color which is a bright yellow/orange metallic. The wheels are also bespoke. The SP275RW is stunningly beautiful and will probably become one of the more valuable […]

Cold Weather Won’t Stop Us

I took the day and headed up to Brainerd International Raceway where a private track day was being hosted by Morries Luxury Auto. Upon arrival, Morrie’s had several new Bentaygas lined up and the all new Aston Martin DB11 for customers and invited guests to stare at and drive. The Bentley’s job for the day was to impress and impress it did. The task was to take guests back onto a dirt track and gravel pit to display it’s off-road prowess. After doing a few trial runs and getting it semi-stuck in the mud, we had a course which worked perfectly! After that I headed to the track action to catch some cars attacking the track despite the 45 degree high for the day.

Lake Superior – Fall Drive

Being asked to photograph multi-day driving events in the peak of the Fall colors up the coast of Lake Superior with a group of super cars never gets boring. This was the Auto Vault’s second annual fall drive with several more planned for next year alone! I never get bored of being a Minnesota car photographer with jobs like this, especially when we end up in Grand Marais with a Lamborghini Huracan, Audi R8 V10, McLaren 650S, Audi RS7 sedan, Porsche Cayman GT4, and Bentley Continental GT V8 S. We got into town with only an hour to go before sunset and instantly attracted a crowd. Being a car photographer, naturally I started scoping out a great angle to photograph the car at with the Minnesota sunset in the background. I lined up the Lamborghini and added in the Audi R8 shortly after for some great shots. Enjoy:

The Climb – Mount Rainier National Park

This story starts in 1977 with my mom, Donna Hway. In that year, she herself summited Mount Rainier with Lou Whittaker of RMI Guides, a bit of a Rainier Legend himself with over 250 summits. Setting foot on the top of Mount Rainier isn’t easy even with today’s gear and technology, let alone nearly 40 years ago. About six months ago, my brother and I finally decided to begin preparations for a climb of our own. And while there are many great peaks in the Rocky Mountains and Canada, we could think of no other mountain but the one that would be the beginning of a family tradition!   We started by taking a slight detour into the backwoods of Oregon. Breaking down our gear to make sure everything was accounted for. Being avid campers mixed with our extreme thriftiness, we camped for free five of our six nights out there. The views were better anyway… Training day. We hiked up a few thousand feet to the snow fields and got a rundown on mountaineering tricks of the trade. We tacked on some additional hiking that evening to try and score some views of the Mountain for the drone. …yes, […]

Wheels Of Italy

Wheels of Italy is a long running Italian car/bike show on the shores of beautiful Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis. While the official car show is a blast for participants and spectators, the WOI evening in St. Paul Minnesota is equally fun! Its a night of good food, music, and beautiful cars/bikes hosted by Pazzaluna Italian Restaurant. Check out the photos from this summer’s event below. And don’t forget to come out to the official WOI car show on September 18th 10am-4pm at Calhoun Square.

Aston Martin DB11 – Private Reveal

I was invited to the private, invite only, DB11 sneak peek reveal at a top secret location here in MN today. This new DB11 is one of four making the rounds to different private showings around the world. DB11 production doesn’t start until June. It was a great pleasure to get to see this pre-production model in the metal this far before it goes into production. Shout out to Morries Luxury Auto and Scott for the invite. Thank you!

2016 Chicago Auto Show – Chicago Illinois

At this year’s Chicago Auto Show there were many cars and MANY people. No, I was not there on press day. However, the brand that totally brought their A-game was BMW. They had a flurry of new technology on display as well has a couple long awaited M models including the BMW M2 and M4 GTS. No matter what, its always exciting to get out and see some new cars during the cold winters here in the upper midwest. Dynamic Photowerk – Josh Hway

International Motor Cycle Show 2016

The first few months of each year, while shadowed in the cold-darkness of winter, have one redeeming feature: auto shows. Yes, nothing gets the blood pumping more than looking at the next hot ride for the upcoming summer months. This time it was the IMS (International Motorcycle Show) that got me in out of the cold and into our very own Minneapolis. Thanks to Twisted Throttle, I was able to get in to grab some snaps of the current and next gen motorcycles. I try not to be biased, but I did start with Ducati. 🙂

Singer 911

What an incredibly cool and rare car! Singer specializes in the 964-chassis 911, built from 1989 to 1994. The 964 was the first street 911 with coil-sprung suspension, replacing the traditional torsion bars. The 964 chassis also retains Porsche’s classic rear trailing arms, which disappeared in 1995. Along with a rear weight bias, trailing arms help these 911s do wonderful things in corners when you snap your foot off the throttle, and that’s all you really need to know about that. I wanted to share some quick shots!
